There is no official guidance on what products can be categorized as Cacao or Cocoa. The scholars believe that the word Cocoa came about as the result of a misspelling by early English traders. Cacao is, of course, the botanical name for the plant species in question, Theobroma Cacao. However, the generic term "Cocoa" is also accepted by the linguists around the world. 

 

Some companies use the words Cacao and Cocoa in an interchangeable way, whilst others prefer to call specific categories (raw/non-raw) by the different names. We have decided to take the position of the reputable experts and use the words Cacao and Cocoa in an interchangeable manner.
